Getting Started with Net Part

To use Net Part, open a Command Prompt window and type the following command:

net part

This will launch the Net Part shell, where you can enter commands to manage the Registry.

Viewing Registry Keys and Values

To view the contents of a Registry key, use the following command:

net part registry show

For example, to view the contents of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters key, you would type the following command:

net part registry show HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

This command will display a list of all the keys and values contained within the specified key.

Modifying Registry Keys and Values

To modify a Registry key or value, use the following command:

net part registry set []

For example, to set the EnableDHCP value to 1 in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters key, you would type the following command:

net part registry set HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters EnableDHCP 1 dword

The dword parameter specifies that the EnableDHCP value is a DWORD (32-bit) value.

Creating Registry Keys and Values

To create a new Registry key or value, use the following command:

net part registry add [ []]

For example, to create a new key called MyKey in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE key, you would type the following command:

net part registry add HKLM\SOFTWARE MyKey

To create a new value called MyValue with a value of 1 in the MyKey key, you would type the following command:

net part registry add HKLM\SOFTWARE\MyKey MyValue 1 dword

Automating Tasks with Net Part

Net Part can be used to automate repetitive tasks by creating and executing scripts.

To create a new script, open a text editor and type the following commands:

net part registry show HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters net part registry set HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters EnableDHCP 1 dword net part registry set HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters IPAddress 192.168.1.100 dword net part registry set HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters SubnetMask 255.255.255.0 dword net part registry set HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters Gateway 192.168.1.1 dword

Save the file with a .bat extension, such as MyScript.bat.

To execute the script, open a Command Prompt window and type the following command:

MyScript.bat

This will execute the commands in the script, which will set the TCP/IP settings for your computer.

Troubleshooting with Net Part

Net Part can be used to troubleshoot network-related issues by querying the Registry for information.

To view the current network configuration, use the following command:

net part registry show HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

This command will display a list of all the TCP/IP settings for your computer.

To troubleshoot a specific issue, such as why you can't connect to the Internet, you can use the following command:

net part registry show HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters Interface

This command will display a list of all the network interfaces on your computer and their current status. This information can help you identify the cause of the issue.
